Erwin Kinsey – Tanzania Country Director
Raised on a farm in northeastern Vermont, Erwin graduated from the University of Vermont with a degree in Animal Science. He then began a 30-year career with Heifer International in 1977 as a Dairy Technician and later server as the Heifer Tanzania Country Director and the Africa Regional Development Officer while based in Arusha, Tanzania.  While at Heifer he spearheaded a dairy development project which grew to national coverage and assisted over 30,000 families with livestock and training. The program pioneered in-kind credit whereby female livestock offspring and training were passed on to neighboring project farmers. The program also pioneered use of local volunteer 'farmer-motivators' and 'community animal health workers' who are the backbone of rural extension provision. In 2001 Erwin helped initiate a program to support families caring for HIV/AIDS sufferers, in which Global Service Corps and Heifer collaborated.  Erwin recently finished his Masters degree in Rural Development from the University of London, Wye College External Program. He has three sons in their early 20’s. His home is within a small organic farm which provides fresh garden produce, goat cheese, yoghurt and other dairy products to a number of families in the Arusha area. Erwin joined Global Service Corps Tanzania in 2007. Some of his goals are to expand and diversify its funding base and project portfolio, and increase sustainability of project work by volunteers.  Back
